It has been over 6 months since Evan's Baclofen pump was implanted. We had
hopes that she would get enough relaxation for her adductors that it might
prevent her hips
from further subluxation.
The Orthopedist told us that her xray from a year ago revealed that one hip
was
at least 50% out. The adductors were so tight that the hips were being
pulled out
at a rate of about 17% a year. At this rate, the hips would be completely
out by age
six and she would need surgery. We decided to have the Baclofen pump
implanted hoping to avoid hip surgery (and others as well, maybe).
We were holding our breath, as we went for this Orthopedist visit, since it
would show
whether the medication from the pump had loosened her enough to slow down or
arrest the hip subluxation.
The Orthopedist appeared in the hallway after he looked at the xrays with a
big grin
and said that the hips have not moved since the last xray (over a year ago).
Thank the Lord! The pump has done what we were hoping for.
Just thought you guys might like to know these results, if you were trying to
come
some decision regarding a similar intervention.
Sincerely,
Joan
